Here are just a few examples of our experience:

Strategic Migration to Open Source

Our client identified a number of common services upon which their application's depended. These common services were deeply intertwined with their silo applications in a technology platform that had become difficult to hire staff for, impossible to geographically separate and cumbersome to deliver new features on.

We were engaged to help them update and migrate these services to an open source platform. We proceeded on a dual-track, with our business analysis team gathering, managing and detailing requirements at the same time that our technical architecture team selected a complete open source stack.

After taking a careful survey of the most current application platform products, we targeted a mostly open source stack, including a mix of pure open source, Red Hat and Oracle as the database server.

We conducted proofs-of-concept with our recommended queuing and rules products to ensure that they would meet performance requirements.

Our integrated team is scheduled to deliver the first product on this new platform in Q3 of 2009. Our team continues to assist our client in delivering new applications on this new strategic platform.

Migration of a legacy Policy Administration System to a mixed Java Open Source / IBM stack

Our client's insurance policy administration system was supporting billions of dollars in premium on a legacy technology stack that was soon to be discontinued.

We were engaged to help port the application to a new application platform. This effort consisted of working with our client to:

  • Reverse-engineer the requirements embedded within the legacy system
  • Select the new technology stack
  • Identify application architecture changes necessary to run on the new platform

The final stack represented a mix of open source and IBM products. With the aid of migration tools, code was migrated from the legacy environment to the new Java based platform. Once migrated, components were retrofitted to meet the patterns laid out in the new architecture.

This system went live in February of 2009.

Migration of Proprietary Workflow to a Home-Grown Solution

A leading national insurance carrier (LNIC) was paying a vendor $500,000 annually for a proprietary workflow product that they suspected was overkill.

Distributed Logic analyzed the use of the product and corroborated our client’s suspicions.

We were then tasked with migrating their application away from this workflow product to a very simple home-grown workflow.

Within 3 months, the application was successfully migrated, resulting in $500,000 in savings annually with a project that cost them approximately $100,000.

Migration from a legacy Microsoft Technologies to a .Net-based platform

Our client's rapid growth created a need for them to move from their legacy application environment to a Microsoft .Net stack. We were engaged to architect their new strategic application platform and to help them migrate their existing application portfolio and to deliver new applications.

The first application delivered on this platform by our integrated team was a rules-based order management system.

Social Networking Application Platform Assessment

Our client, a social networking company, was in the process of being evaluated for purchase by a larger social networking startup. As part of the due diligence process, their software application technology stack was to be evaluated.

In order to put their best foot forward, our client engaged us to perform an evaluation of their stack first and to create a positioning document.

Within months of the end of our engagement, our client company was sold for 12.5 times revenue.

Purchase & Bind Auto Insurance Online

Distributed Logic built a self-service Internet portal for our client’s consumers to get auto insurance quotes, and to bind and purchase policies.

We integrated with a brand new enterprise application service platform. This new portal was our client's first application on the new platform to be made available on the web.

We also integrated the application with 3rd-party insurance comparison sites, as well as with the registry of motor vehicles.

This application went into production in September of 2007.
